As defined in Wikipedia, gratitude is defined as a "positive emotion or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive." It is important to note that it is an emotion, not a thought, which one feels within their body and mind. It is imperative to know this because whenever you attach emotion to an an intention, know that it will manifest. The same concept applies to negative mindsets and results. If you are emotionally charged with negative thoughts, you will generate negative results. If you complain that you never get what you want, you are actually making your mindset a reality. Instead, change your thinking one thought at a time by feeling grateful for what you do have. It does not matter how insignificant it seems to you at the moment. It may be as simple as being grateful that you can read, have a place to call home, or have good health. The more you think about what you do have, instead of what you do not have at the moment, you will realize that there is something to always be grateful for. Write down what you are grateful for each day and you will find yourself adding to the list more and more. Perhaps one day you will look over what you have written and wonder why you didn't see it all before.
Once you determine what you feel grateful for, focus on the emotion and energy of being grateful. Feel the positive attitude flow in your physical body. Feel the emotion of gratitude. Close your eyes and think or visualize what you are grateful for and express sincere thanks from your heart. The say that states, "you reap what you sow" is a law of life to know to be true. Remember: whenever you attach an emotion to an intention, you will set the powers in motion to make it a reality. Therefore, when you focus on the emotions or feelings of being grateful for what you do have, you will literally generate the energy to create more physical realities for which to give thanks. Contrary to the current mindset of this era, do not assume or expect instant results. Instead, acknowledge that you will receive what you need at the perfect time and be grateful for knowing this truth. Never forget, your development of gratitude is your choice. Just like you tend to a garden by pruning it, watering it, and giving the plants what they need to grow healthy and strong, the same concept applies to your growth of gratitude.
Most importantly, know that when life gives you tough times to face, it is an opportunity to put your understanding of gratitude in practice. The stronger the adversity you face, the greater the opportunity you have to grow and expand your mindset and spiritual Self. It is the challenges that give you inner strength, not the easy times. When you face your challenges or fears directly and overcome them, the outcome is determined by your attitude. Gratitude and attitude are directly linked. Just like the cycles in life, remember that nothing is permanent and be grateful for that fact. Instead, stay present in whatever moment you are in and consciously choose how you want to respond to it and set your intentions for the future. This physical journey is a quick one; therefore, be grateful for each moment you are given to experience. Without gratitude, you are powerless; by physically and mentally generating the energy of gratitude, you will reap the power to live your life with intention and perhaps far beyond what you initially dreamed possible. So, when you say "thank you", say it from the heart...knowing there will be more on the way to be grateful for and more to give back to others.
